COMPOSITION IS A TOOL ONE CAN USE TO ENGAGE A VIEWERS INTEREST

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN COMPOSING ARTWORK IS THE "RULE OF THIRDS" EVEN THOUGH IT IS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AS WELL

THE RED DIAGONAL BAR IN THE PRINT IS CLOSE TO A THIRD OF THE PRINT

That is not an accident. It highlights the area and creates emphasis.

NOTE: The white third lines are added for illustration purpose.

There are other named composition methods. One is the Golden Mean and another is the Golden Ratio. However, they are not as simple to apply as the Rule of Thirds which is more "cut & dry".

Bottom line: Like most rules, the rule of thirds is not written in STONE.
